Learning to swim at the YMCA is an exciting and enjoyable process! Here are a few pointers for you to know when you or your child begins swim classes: Be patient and supportive. Swimming develops new motor skills, and the time needed to learn these skills varies from person to person. Generally, it takes 3 consecutive sessions to progress to a new level. Time is required to develop strength and endurance to perform these skills. Swimmers develop as these skills are reinforced. Our Aquatics program meets the need for a comprehensive program of water enrichment and skill development. Our enthusiastic staff, low ratios, and progressive program will ensure your child’s experience is fun and rewarding.
Youth Swim Programs
Read the descriptions below to determine which class is right for your child. Our instructors will evaluate each swimmer on the first day of each session.
6-12 months and Toddlers 13-36 months
This class provides a fun time for parents to interact with their child. The class is designed to increase child’s comfortably in the water and to teach basic life saving skills for their child.
Preschool (3-5yr): Beginner to Advanced level: Swimmers will learn water safety, basic swim skills, and stroke development.
Beginner & Intermediate Youth (6-12yr): Beginner to Intermediate levels only: Structured for swimmers who may not yet be comfortable in the water or who cannot swim the full length of the Lee pool (25 yards). Swimmers will learn basic to intermediate skills that will help them to develop confidence in and around the water. The freestyle and backstroke will also be introduced.
Advanced Youth (6- 12yr): Advanced level only: Structured for those who already have confidence in the water and have mastered basic swimming skills. Swimmers must be able to perform Freestyle and Backstroke for the full length of the Lee pool (25 yds). Swimmers will learn to increase their
Teen (12-17yr): Any level. Designed for swimmers ages 12-17 who either are not yet comfortable in and around the water or for those with various levels of swimming skills. Swimmers will learn basic to advanced skills (depending on ability) that will help them to increase their confidence and stroke development.
Any level. Designed for swimmers ages 18 and over who either are not yet comfortable in and around the water or for those with various levels of swimming skills. Introduces young swimmers to competitive swimming teaching all 4 strokes in good form and starts and turns. Marlins swimmers must be evaluated for these programs.
MARLIN SWIM TEAM
